Reminiscent of friendship bracelets from her youth- the mixed media necklaces are playful and pretty at the same time! happy weekend! (and it's only sat)

Friday evening Ryan and I went down to Moore college for the Bicycle gallery opening. Since their bike sculpture won the kinetic derby, it was on display along with bmx riders, a history of bikes, (with some awesome old old bikes) and other bike related art things. That was fun, although I forgot to take any pictures.

Then today we hung out in center city for a bit, bought some new books, ran errands etc etc. Later in the afternoon Lois picked me up to head down to the South Philly Taproom Block party/Wheat Beer festival. Her band was playing, so I went to see them, and hang out with the girls. It was so fun!! I had a couple delicious beers, danced with my little ladies, and met some new people. It was nice to be outside, in the sun, just playing and having fun. a few favorites, the rest are on my flickr:

mj

stands for 2 things i love. first and foremost michael jackson, secondly marc jacobs. I truly did love him. i remember being a little girl, and dancing in my kitchen with my mom and big brother, yea- when it was just us 2, before the other 6 came along. it was how we learned how to dance. I actually cried yesterday believe it or not, twice. I'm working from the rocket cat today, and they're playing all mj. it's wonderfully sad. creepy or not- i'll always love him.

welcome to the family

hi. my name is lana, and every summer, all i want are milkshakes. thick, chocolate milkshakes. i normally walk down to the corner ice cream shop, or wait for mr. softee to come around. well, no longer! Look at this precious baby I added to my growing family of kitchen gadgets today. I've been hoping and wishing for one of these, and what a beauty she is. Came with the cup and everything. Milkshakes anyone?

sister time!

My big sister came into town for less than a day, to audition for a ballet company here in Philly. She got out early- so i met her in center city for lunch. I asked Weegie, resident food guru for a suggestion, since i don't eat out alot. He pointed me towards Smokin Betty's. It's on 11th and Sansom (no website yet) Decor is cute, simple, and what do you know, Brooks was our server! We ordered a salad and the pizza special and split them. The food was SO delicious!!!!! The salad was a quinoa, chickpea salad with feta, cucumbers, tomato and balsamic vinaigrette. YUM. The pizza was a curry, grilled chicken with cilantro and cheddar cheese. delicious! I also got a Saranac pomegranate wheat beer which was nice and refreshing after my bike ride down. Then we headed to Naked, and split a fondue thing. All together- quite a nice day!

I moved up to fishtown 2 years ago, and wrote this blog before i met any of you beautiful people. funny huh?

and so the story began..its fun to look back at old blogs and see whats changed. siobhan and i even talked about our old xanga's and lj's awhile ago. those are just downright hysterical.

chicks!

things that stink about living in the city: you aren't living on a farm.

But i did just find this amazing company Omlet, that will let me have my chickens in the city! Fresh eggs anyone? For under $1000, you can get the eglu, chickens, and feed delivered to your door. perfectness.

the burbs

I really wanted to get outside the city this weekend. Take a day trip- something. But since I don't have a car, that's a little hard. Colleen said she would be up for something, so we made our way down Westchester,(missed the exit and ended up in deleware, hah) it was POURING out as we googled some thrift stores, and settled on Lee Jewelree + Thrift Shop. It was basically an indoor mini flea market. In the basement I found this adorable little tin sink and oven. At $25 each I passed.

Then we walked down a block to Fay's Thirft Shop, and I rounded up a good amount of treasures. It was quite a glorious day! You can see everything I bought here. Favorites below..

It still works!

Made in Ecuador.

if i weren't on a shopping ban

I would be buying all of these dresses because it's SUMMERTIME! I'm half-way through this no shopping year.

all available on modcloth.

Alexander Girard

Alexander Girard is an American textile designer among other things. He is absolutely brilliant. He is probably most notably known for his work with Herman Miller, Charles and Ray Eames, and George Nelson. Classified as "Folk Art" You can guess why I love him so much. At the tail end of my time with uo- we started working with the Girard Foundation on a collection. It has just come out- and it's awesomely awesome.

For UO:

I've been itching to go to New Mexico for awhile now..so if anyone would like to go here, they have a whole Girard wing!

Marquee Letters

So, since I used to buy for the home department at Urban Outfitters- I still like to frequently check out what they're up to these days..i'm absolutely in love with these old marquee inspired letters. I'd have to spell something short- like

I know what I'm saving up for..Circus House!
